Up for your consideration is a Confederate $100 note, dated December 18th 1862.

Printed by J.T. Paterson & Co. in Columbia, SC. Scroll # 2. Serial number Serial # 124069 hand written in red ink. handwritten in red ink. VERY GOOD+

Dark printing. Clear details. Ample margin on three sides. A tight cut at the top margin, and margin with a couple tears, the largest being 1/8".

Numerous folds and creases. A few pinholes. A couple areas of ink erosion in the center. A pre-printing crease is visible at the right side. Printed on paper watermarked C.S.A. in block letters.

What diminishes the condition factors, is the collectible hand endorsement on the backside from Confederate Major Charles S. Severson, who later was the chief quartermaster for Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

The endorsement clearly reads:

Issued By
Maj. C.S. Severson
AQM
March 16 1863

A very interesting discussion on this endorsement is found in Mike McNeil's 2016 book "Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents" on pages 647-651. His book is an excellent resource if you are looking to learn more about notes that have endorsements, we strongly recommend obtaining this book.

Major Severson's endorsement is quite collectible and presents fairly well on this example. Your satisfaction is always GUARANTEED.
