Up for your consideration is an encapsulated $20 note from the state of North Carolina, dated January 1st 1863. Catalog number Cr119. Encapsulated and graded by PMG to be in "CHOICE ABOUT UNCIRCULATED 55" condition, with a comment on the backside reading "Annotation".

Hand signed in two places at the bottom, along with a handwritten serial number of 1284. Plate letter G. Red "TWENTY " printed on the front.

Fine details. No tears or ink erosion. No pinholes. Strong red color on the front. The backside is blank.

NO creases or evidence of handling. Nearly fully framed; trimmed just a bit tight at the left side margin. Pencil writing on the backside from a past collector noting the catalog number.

This note reads:

"The STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA WILL PAY TO BEARER TWENTY DOLLARS Redeemable at the TREASURY, on or before the FIRST DAY OF JANUARY 1866.
".

A southern note that was issued during the Civil War, and one that carries a lot of history printed on it. Guaranteed for life to be a genuine Southern States issue.
